However, rapid urbanisation, weak land use enforcement and informal settlement expansion have increased pressure on wetlands, drainage systems and green spaces, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Solid waste management remains a major challenge, characterised by limited segregation, inadequate collection coverage and growing waste volumes in the Central Business District and peri-urban wards. Poor disposal practices continue to degrade wetlands and drainage channels, contributing to flooding and public health risks. Environmental sanitation is further constrained by limited waste treatment infrastructure and low community awareness.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"997\" height=\"854\" class=\"wp-image-1276\" src=\"https:\/\/kamulimc.go.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Senior-Eneviron.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Namukasa Evelyn &#8211; <em>Senior Environment Officer<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wetlands and natural drainage systems around the Municipality are increasingly encroached upon for settlement and urban agriculture, weakening their ecological buffering role.
