These areas provide suitable conditions for horticulture, poultry farming, piggery, mushroom cultivation, and vegetable production, which are already being practiced on a small scale by organized youth and women groups, especially in Northern Division.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If properly supported, these activities can contribute significantly to household incomes, food security, and local employment. There are also opportunities to introduce small-scale irrigation schemes, greenhouse farming, and integrated pest management practices to enhance productivity and resilience to climate variability. Further, agro-processing and value addition enterprises such as fruit drying, vegetable packaging, and meat processing could strengthen local value chains, stimulate small business development, and increase market competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite these opportunities, several challenges continue to limit the sector\u2019s growth and transformation. Urban agriculture in Kamuli MC faces limited land for large-scale production due to increasing urbanization and competing land uses. Farmers have inadequate access to quality inputs, affordable credit, and reliable extension services, which constrains productivity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The low uptake of agro-processing technologies limits value addition and reduces potential earnings, while restrictive policies on wetland use and insecure land tenure systems make it difficult to invest in sustainable farming practices. Moreover, gender disparities, low youth interest in agriculture, and the adverse effects of climate change, including prolonged droughts and occasional flash floods, further undermine the sector\u2019s resilience and sustainability.
