Urbanization in Kamuli Municipality

Kamuli MC is undergoing rapid urbanization driven by: Population growth and in-migration from rural areas; Expansion of trading centers like Buwengempya, Nankulyaku, and Busota; and Rising investments in real estate, especially along Kamuli–Jinja Road. Informal settlements are growing in Kasoigo and Bukwenge, often with poor drainage and limited waste management. Annual population growth is around 3.4%, increasing pressure on housing and urban services. Youths form the majority of the urban labor force, working in boda boda transport, construction, vending, and agro-processing.
